Out and about in Bridge of Allan
there is a wide variety of exclusive designer shops together with some interesting places to eat and drink. There is also lots to see and do with some ideas listed below:
Interesting places to visit:
Stroll along to the Allan Water Bridge, it gave the village its name and still provides a focal point for visitors to the area. The original structure was a traditional stone built humped bridge that was replaced during the Victorian era to accommodate holiday traffic moving through the village to the north.
The Wallace Monument – a monument to William Wallace (Braveheart). At 220ft the tower sits on the Abbey Craig and is a landmark which can be seen from all around the Stirling area. A circular stairway of 246 steps leads to a panoramic viewing area, visit exhibits within and stop off for a coffee in the café.
Blair Drummond Safari & Wildlife Park – a mixture of driving through animal reserves, walking through pet farms, visiting adventure playgrounds, enjoy the sea lion and falconry displays and take a boat trip to chimp island. Lots of areas to picnic and bbq as well as Restaurant and Bar facilities.
Robert Louis Stevenson’s Cave – Robert Louis Stevenson spent many holidays in Bridge of Allan, he enjoyed walking along the Darn Walk which is a path running along the Allanwater to Dunblane where you can find Stevenson’s Cave (said to be the inspiration for Treasure Island).
